Sacha Vaughan, CFA  Director

Brett holds an Honours degree in Accounting and Tax from the University of Natal, is a qualified Chartered Accountant of South Africa and holds a Higher Diploma in Taxation from the University of Johannesburg.

Brett has had a distinguished finance career, starting at KPMG, and later transitioning to Nedbank Capital for 12 years where he gained invaluable expertise in investment banking, including project finance, asset management, corporate finance, and empowerment funding. Brett then joined HSBC as the Head of Project Finance: Metals and Mining, overseeing limited recourse project finance deals across Sub-Saharan Africa and Continental Europe over a 5-year period.

With over 25 successful transactions and more than USD10 billion of debt finance raised, Brett has an impressive track record across multiple global regions. In 2015, he founded WaterBorne Capital, a company focused on project finance and advisory services in the natural resources sector, leveraging his extensive experience in this field.

Brett is also currently the Head of the Finance Committee and a member of Council at St Cyprians School in Cape Town.

Sacha holds a BCom in Financial Accounting, a Post Graduate Diploma in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, and is a CFA charter holder.

Sacha is passionate about renewable technologies and investment that enables a greener economy and benefits from more than 15 years of project finance advisory, origination and asset management experience in South Africa, Europe, the UK, and the Nordics.

Sacha’s skills include project development, contract structuring, project finance, financial modelling, PPA structuring, risk management, derivatives, equity valuation, financial reporting and a thorough understanding of the policies and regulatory dynamics of the international carbon markets.

Sacha has previously held positions at Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, and UBS in London.

Ryan Skirving, CA(SA)   Associate

Renske van Wyk, CA(SA)   Associate

Ryan holds a BCom (Honours) degree in finance from the University of Cape Town and is a qualified Chartered Accountant of South Africa. Ryan is skilled in financial modelling and analysis and offers end-to-end project finance solutions to clients. He leverages his experience and expertise to assist clients in making informed financial decisions.

His experience at Deloitte in London, working with a variety of clients across Private Equity, professional services, media, and manufacturing, has provided him with a diverse skill set and has honed his financial modelling, financial analysis, and project finance expertise.

Ryan is currently pursuing a master’s degree in development finance (MCom) at the University of Cape Town to further enhance his expertise in the field.

Renske holds an Honours Degree in Accounting from Stellenbosch University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant of South Africa. She completed her articles at KPMG in Cape Town, where she gained industry exposure to the retail sector and significant exposure to the financial services sector though her work in KPMG’s specialised FEG team.

In her role as Associate at WBC, Renske is actively involved in the buildout of fit for purpose project finance financial models in order to assist clients in the design of optimal capital structures, and to facilitate both equity and debt due diligence processes.

Jacob Neethling, CFA, CA(SA)  Associate

Zandri Rheeder CA(SA)   Financial Manager

Jacob, or “Japie” as he is better known, holds an Honours degree in Accounting from Stellenbosch University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant of South Africa. Japie has also achieved the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.

Japie’s role at WBC sees him focused on the continued enhancement of the inhouse, bespoke financial model platforms at both the individual project level and at a consolidated investment platform level, in addition to assisting various funding consortiums with their respective due diligence exercises and resultant credit and/or investment committee applications.

Zandri holds a Postgraduate diploma in Applied Accounting Science from the University of South Africa and is a qualified Chartered Accountant of South Africa. With a solid background in accounting, tax, and financial management, Zandri’s experience as an Audit Trainee at CAP Chartered Accountants equipped her with skills in financial reporting, audits, and compliance. She has worked with complex financial instruments, intangible assets, leases, and a multitude of debt products, gaining exposure to the demands of working with both private and publicly listed companies.

As a Senior Fund Accountant at Sanne Group, Zandri managed and reported on investment funds, honing skills in financial reporting, management accounts, and mentoring. Overall, Zandri’s expertise in auditing, reporting, and fund management makes her an invaluable asset.

Kelly Smith, CA(SA)   Project Manager

Saskia Verity   Analyst

Kelly is an experienced finance professional with a solid background in Audit and Advisory. At SA Professional Consulting (Pty) Ltd, Kelly handled global audit responsibilities for Crowe US and Deloitte Australia. She focused on planning, performing, and finalising audits in various industries like Manufacturing, Retail, Retail Dealerships, and Health Care.

Kelly also served as a Project Manager at SAPRO, overseeing internal projects and managing a Consulting Pilot Program with the Kolisi Foundation. Now, as a Project Manager at WaterBorne Capital, Kelly continues to bring her practical approach and collaborative style to the table. Her proven track record in audit and advisory services makes her a valuable asset to the team.

Saskia holds a Business Science degree in Finance from the University of Cape Town. She possesses a solid foundation in the finance and debt raising fields and leverages her strong educational background to excel in her role.

She is currently a candidate for the CFA Level two exam. By leveraging her expertise in financial modelling and analysis, Saskia provides capital raising solutions for clients in the project finance sector. Her combination of education, professional development, and practical experience makes her a valuable asset to the WBC team.

Jacques Swanepoel, CFP®   Analyst

Mariam Creighton, AGA(SA)   Project Accountant

Jacques is a skilled analyst, specialising in research, financial analysis, and data interpretation, all of which ensures that WBC’s information memorandums, investor and/or debt decks and deal snapshots contain current, relevant and user specific information and statistics, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.

Jacques is currently pursuing a PGDip in Finance at Stellenbosch Business School, and also holds a BCom in Investment Management from the University of Stellenbosch.

Mariam is a diligent and motivated professional who, having completed her SAICA articles at MGI Bass Gordon, and is registered as an AGA(SA). Her experience as a trainee accountant at MGI Bass Gordon equipped her with valuable skill sets in office technology, general accounting, and financial management.

She excels in establishing and maintaining strong communication and client relationships, thereby showcasing her effectiveness in client transactions and collaboration to ensure that her clients’ needs, and stakeholder reporting obligations are consistently met within the stipulated timelines.

Dew Krog   Office Manager

Dew holds a BCom (Management and Economics) from the University of Fort Hare and currently serves as the Office Manager for WBC, fulfilling a pivotal position in guaranteeing the smooth operation of the office environment. With a broad spectrum of administrative and HR responsibilities, Dew plays a crucial role in maximizing the office’s efficiency.

As an integral member of the WBC team, Dew actively fosters a productive and efficient work environment for all employees and clients.
